Krystyna and Paul had my dream winter wedding. Fur, snowflakes, sparkle, twinkle lights… Everything about it is comparable to Kenny Rogers singing “A few of my Favorite Things.”You all know my love for Kenny and Dolly so need to go there or talk about how often I listen to their Christmas album through out the year. Cue the flannel jams, hot cocoa and baking because truly those are some of the most joyful simple pleasures.
On our first phone call we spent the majority of the time talking about our dogs and then another hour after about photography, decor, and everything under the sun. Two days later I received a card in the mail that said they were so excited to meet me. It’s stuff like this that warms my heart.
My favorite part about this wedding was the very thought out homemade items. Krystyna and Paul picked pine from their own backyard to make the garland that decorated the aisle. They made fake snow … If you knew how heavy fake snow in tubs was…. They raided after Christmas sales for twinkle lights and gathered as many tall green trees from tree lots so that their first dance was amongst the forest.
All the children who played a role in the wedding were kids Krystyna had nannied. She had grown so close and loved this family so much like they were her own.
Krystyna and Paul kept us involved for several decisions but one that sticks out in my mind was what shoes to wear with her wedding dress? After she sent me several options we decided the best one suited for her big day would be the blush ones covered in tiny crystals. Reminded us of cotton candy dreams and since then thats what we called them: the cotton candy dream shoes. We got so much joy throughout the planning process talking about those pretty pink shoes.
It’s no secret when you start scrolling through these pictures that these two are a fan of penguins. Allow me to elaborate. Their very first date was to see March of the Penguins and from then on Paul called Krystyna his ducky and she called him her penguin. Their first dance song was titled You’re My Penguin by Christina Perry. I bet you haven’t heard that one. But it is great + listening to the words will give you goosebumps. Their engagement pictures were taken at The zoo so you guessed it, they could include the penguins. Every guest that came to the wedding received a porcelain penguin figurine.
Their reception held at Ces and Judy’s Le Chateau was a beautiful and intimate affair with gorgeous linens from BBJ. Icy green centerpieces and fluffy white blooms by An Affair to Remember.
plus this screen shotCAPTION FOR CEREMONY – Paul and Krystyna made the greenery on the mantle from the trees in their backyard!
Another very cool thing was that their photographer was June Hallowell. I worked my very first wedding with June and several after. She’s incredibly talented, super fun and I was so excited the minute Krystyna and Paul said we haven’t booked anything yet except our photographer because I just had to have her. That speaks volumes about somebody’s work.
Many of you have seen this gorgeous face in + out of the wedding industry.
In the wedding industry she worked at Clarice’s Bridal, 2 Chics + a Photo Booth, TPI, Lost Hill Lake AND ran her own awesome planning company on top of floral design … ps I am sure I am missing something because she is literally so “can’t stop won’t stop” + always willing to lend a helping hand.
A few things I think the world should know: Brittani (Joyce) Miller is a foodie fanatic + an outstanding cook. Secretly we are all hoping she opens a restaurant, publishes a cook book or at least a cooking show one day. Like she’s THAT good.
She is a coffee connoisseur + perhaps a slight addict. You can find her hanging out La Pâtisserie Chouquette because there is nothing a chocolate croissant can’t cure.
Brit has a VOICE + one heck of a stage presence. If you can ever catch her on a Facebook live – it is well worth your time! Brittani actually joined Trixie Delight the night of her wedding to sing out a few tunes!
She is HILARIOUS! Our first meet + greet was after a series of unfortunate events that led us to one another + I couldn’t be more grateful! Brit had just started her wedding planning gig + had a background of event production + a killer work ethic ignited straight from her big ass heart (pardon my French). We met at La Bonne Bouchée (I told you my girl knows what’s up) + we sat there laughing for LITERALLY hours.
I wholeheartedly believe this incredible woman entered my life at the perfect time.
Since that day we became dear friends + she so graciously agreed to help me in a super busy wedding season. And shortly after we dove head first into planning her wedding.
I cannot believe we are FINALLY sharing these gorgeous images on her 4th wedding anniversary as she + Mark snuggle the most perfect baby girl, Maryn. Well, they are worth the wait, just like baby bird!
Brit has assisted + coordinated countless weddings on the SSD Events team. That’s right people, after one season I couldn’t let her go because not only was she super fun to work with, but like I said, she has a heart of gold + that’s a necessity when being a wedding planner!
I am sad + extremely proud (at the same time, I know… talk about commitment issues) to say that Brit is now an honorary SSD team member because she has a stellar career helping people create their happily ever afters…
Say what?!?!?! She continues making happy magic but in a slightly different + super impactful way: by helping couples + families plan for their future financially, showing them possibility + providing a way to get there (because let’s be real, that can be the hardest part).
I can say this because Brit helped me + the hubs get on the right moolah track + it feels soooooo good! Want more info? Or to become besties with Brit? Click here to visit her page.
It is my honor to be friends with this stellar human.
It’s been my honor to work along side of her.
And it was an honor to be a part of her wedding weekend.
We were admittedly kinda sad about saying goodbye to 2019 because it was such a good year!!! Amiright!!???!! Just reminiscing on the fun trends that showed up – helllloooo llamas (You’ve most likely seen these at The Venue at Maison du lac), ceiling installments on head tables (like ones that the incredible talent as Roses + Mint produces), customized neon lights, embroidered jackets (have you checked out the Daily Disco?) + the earthy texture of pampas grass! But rest assured friends, these trends will be around for while.
We were thrilled to see classic blue as the 2020 Pantone Color of the year and while something blue usually makes an appearance somewhere on wedding days like getting ready robes, shoes + the groomsmen tuxes, we know blue will be more front + center this year!
Think glass goblets, dresses, silk ribbons … the whole 9 yards …. of luxurious suede linen. Can you just feel it now?
Other trends coming down the pipeline are dried florals incorporated with real flowers. Say what??? True story, designers like Ashley McDonald Florals + Agape are combining the two for some super unique looks + textures + we are here for it!
And you thought you’d never see the day, but we ditched the mason jars + gave baby’s breath a more updated modern look + feel. You will see it in centerpiece hedges, ceiling installations + ceremony statement pieces, just like our girl Mandy Moore rocked at her wedding!
Loads of color! And bold at that! You will see color as a neutral that sets the tone! You know we love the classic white gold + blush look but pops of vibrant color have us giddy for this year’s wedding seasons! Plus color brings a whole new element of personalization!
We will start seeing more nontraditional wedding attire- think contemporary, playful, cropped, jumpsuits, capes + skirts (oh my)! And I’m talking maids too!
Speaking of non-traditional, we also anticipate seeing more couples hiring their favorite local restaurant chefs to add another level of personalization + interaction! Last fall we had Pastaria pizza truck come to one of our weddings + chefs made stone oven pizzas + signature salads! It was a huge hit + dish delish!
One trend that will never go out of style is YOU! Bringing in nods to your relationship makes your event that much more memorable!
Our winter styled shoot at Verde on Cherokee, an urban green house, was featured in the newest issue of Perfect Wedding Guide!
