Happy Fall Y’all

A Sappy September Post

Do y’all remember that old Green Day song “Wake Me Up When September Ends?” Well, could someone have woken me up when August ended?! Because oh my goodness these couples + their anniversaries are so important to us!!

September in St. Louis brings beautiful weather (evidently Midwest states are the only ones that believe that a sweatshirt can be paired with shorts!), changing leaves, and the most perfect backdrop to Fall Weddings!

+ in true SSD fashion, we can’t help but reminisce on our past SSD couples, their best day evers, + the special places they each hold in our hearts!

Jessica + Ryan 9.1.18

Our beautiful Jessica married Ryan on Labor Day Weekend in 2018 St. Louis Elizabeth Lloyd captured every magical detail – especially these outdoor pics of the bouquet made by our gals at An Affair to Remember! We loved Jessica’s organization during the planning process and her never-ending smile for her whole wedding day!

Gena + Brad 9.19.2015

These two had the most gorgeous fall wedding at Pere Marquette in Grafton, IL. They are also celebrating 5 years this year! An Affair to Remember transformed the lodge with long family style tables, olive leaves + loose blooms, candles of course, + the prettiest chargers. It was the perfect fall day + complete with a golden sun! We adore this family. So much so that we coordinated her sister’s wedding two years ago + can’t till it’s Kat’s turn!

Amanda + Matt 9.4.16

Can you say FAIRYTALE pic?! Amanda + Matt look like they’re ready to ride off into the sunset like they are straight out of The Princess Bride!  + you have to believe us when we say that their entire outdoor wildflower event was equally as magical as this pic!!

Natalie + Brice 9.7.19

Speaking of wildflower magic!! Our Natalie + Brice were married on the Terrace of The Caramel Room surrounded by wildflowers grown locally by our Urban Buds! + Jennifer at The Lonesome Traveler found the perfect fabric for the gentlemen’s ties to match!

Brittany + Scott 9.1.13

This was our VERY first Signed Sealed Delivered Events wedding! OMG! That was seven years ago! We instantly clicked with the queen of the Sparkle Kitchen + the Name Tag Guy Name Tag Guy + had a wonderful time planning their Forest Park ceremony at the Muny + glitter coated reception at The Artist’s Guild. To this day Scottany (their nick name) performed MY very favorite first dance! (Click here to watch) Which I captured with my Zach Morris style flip phone.

Abbie + Craig 9.7.19

Oh Abbie + her Mamabear Glenda will always bring a giant smile to our faces! Their big hearts, pure excitement, and overwhelming joy will always have a special place in our hearts!! Grimm + Gorly made every one of their flower dreams come true at Mainstreet Abbey!

Katie + Brian 9.15.18

Gosh, our September MOBs are true gems! Katie’s Mama Lois was so excited to party but that didn’t stop her from truly experiencing every perfect moment of Katie + Brian’s day. They had a First Touch captured by Dreaming Tree Photography that captured our hearts forever!! + can we all just take a moment to swoon at the way Brian is looking at Katie here?!

Tori + Ben 9.18.15

LC Photography Studio

Tori and Ben hosted one of the first weddings at the Magnolia Hotel! Tori + her mom DIY’d nearly all the decor. Her sister did her hair + make up. And her pupper Louie came by for kisses of course. Tori + Ben are celebrating 5 years this year! Every Christmas, I look forward to getting a card in the mail from these babes!

Katy + JB 9.16.17

We are still giggling thinking of Katy + JB! These two just welcomed their baby girl into the world! Not sure if you’re following along on our Insta Stories as we talk about What Wedding Planners Do, (if not, skip over there right now!) but we talk about how our clients become family. Katy, JB + their MamaBears have truly become a big part of our SSD family + we cannot wait to plan baby Juliet’s wedding! (don’t worry, JB, we can wait 20+ years!!)

Kari + John 9.21.14

Brooke G Images (Now BGI Photography)

Are you smiling, yet?? If not, you will be after this adorable pic of Kari + John sharing a special moment together on their wedding day captured by Brooke G Images!  Fun story, I’ve known Kari since kindergarten, she was my neighbor up until college. Some of my fave childhood memories are of us riding our bikes (reminds me of the movie Now + Then)! She + John met working at Best Buy in high school + have been lovebirds ever since. They celebrate 6 years (+ two precious baby girls later) this year! My fave part of their wedding is when John surprised Kari + sang to her at the reception.

Caitlin + Michael 9.5.15

It’s the big 5 years for Caitlin + Michael too! We loved the classic black bridesmaids gown paired with fluffy pink peonies! After the ceremony, they rode down to the arch for photos + back to party their tail feathers off! We worked with our favorite Dreaming Tree Photography that day! We love Amanda + she has continued to document their lives! One of my favorite things when a couple grows with their photographer! They have two of the most darling babes.

Shannyn + Mitchell 9.24.16

Back to our September MamaBear love!! We are on Wedding #3 with Shannyn’s mama Debbie! The Rudawsky family might have to become the RudawSSD family! Ok, that was a little cheesy but we just can’t help it when talking about them! Shannyn + Mitchell are celebrating year 4 of their Happily Ever After this month + we just cannot pick a favorite pic from their day because Shadow + Light gave us so many options (+ these families are just so beautiful inside + out!) From overlooking Forest Park at the World’s Fair Pavilion to greeting their guests with a champagne toast to their sparkler sendoff, every moment was magic. Truly magic!

Christine + Doug 9.26.15

Christine + Doug also danced their wedding night away at Union Station! Their First Look gives us all of the happy feels even 5 years later! Look at their faces!! They’re so happy to spend the rest of their lives together!! (can you tell we really love this job?!)

Courtney + Russell 9.26.15

Courtney + Russell hosted their wedding at the Fox Theater! Their band came in from Texas + was quite possibly the most fun reception we’ve ever seen! They ended their reception with a second line parade of sparklers. Honestly it doesn’t get any more magical than that! Courtney + Russell’s little girl Harper just celebrated her first birthday this summer.

Megan + Josh 9.29.18

Arndt Photo & Cinema

Speaking of dancing the night away – Megan + Josh had one of the BIGGEST dance floors we’ve ever had on a room diagram!! + Bountiful Blossoms + Grand Rental Station transformed the Hecker Dome into a wonderland of florals + blushes! + we of course have to give our Arndt Photo + Cinema a giant shoutout for capturing this show stopping pic of the new Mr + Mrs

It’s All About You

How to make your wedding personal

Weddings don’t have to look the same!

Sure there is always two people committing to one another (or 3 if you’ve seen the Tiger King) + someone to marry them.

Usually refreshments of some sort + loads of happiness.

But there is plenty of opportunity to make your day be a reflection of your love story!

What are your fave foods?

What is your cultural background?

What do you like to do for fun?

We loved that Elena + Patrick opted for a Sunday afternoon wedding followed by fancy mocktails + Puertorican themed appetizers (complete with appetizer flags)!  Elena’s father is Puertorican so representing their culture was something we knew we had to do! 23 City Blocks worked with us to create a mouthwatering menu to include tostones + empanadas.

But it didn’t end there…

There were countless things that made this wedding personal.

Let’s start from the very beginning (a very good place to start). Elena got ready at home where she grew up surrounded by family heirlooms while mama + papa bear laughed with the bride squad.

She had her first look with her dad there + read a beautiful letter from Patty that had us all in tears.

The bride + groom opted for the traditional route of not seeing the bride till the minute she walks down the aisle which we love!

Even the recessional song had meaning: You Make My Dreams Come True by Hall + Oates! Elena listened to this on her way home after hanging out with Patrick for the first time!

Once you entered the doors of Lumen, this guest experience was wow from every angle.

Not only was the decor STUNNING!!! Hello look at those flowers! But the delicious food + presentation by 23 City Blocks blew us all away (per usual)!

Since bingo was one of Elena + Patrick’s favorite things to do in college, we had bingo cards at each seat with winning baskets full of their favorite hobbies like movie night, game night + baking!

After dinner, Carlos with Mambo Revolution taught salsa lessons to our guests! This was probably my favorite thing we have ever done at a wedding!

And this wouldn’t be a blog post without me telling you how much I adored my mama + papa bear! Michele + David were such a delight to work with + I loved that from the very beginning David said: whatever makes my girls happy. I am pretty sure his girls were happy! Look at that face!

At the end of the evening the Sobrino men shared cigars with the newest member of the family: Patrick!

Every minute of this wedding so thoughtful!

You know that is part of the SSD Events planning experience: helping our clients imagine events that standout because they represent the couple. We are all about the creativity + special nods to their love story.

Our wedding pro team was of course stellar + I am so proud to work with such incredible folks

Remembering Kimber

Remembering Kimber

Remembering Kimber

Normally I post a happily ever after anniversary message with loads of my fave pics from their day.

But this year I wasn’t sure how.

You see this beautiful woman’s soul left this earth after an uphill battle with ovarian cancer last month.

I will never forget reading Kyle’s words that he lost the love of his life that day. How much she inspired so many. How he knows she will be with him always.

It was May 11. My birthday. The reason I bring that up is because her wedding day photographer, Shannon shares my birthday as well. So now the 3 of us share that day- earth birthdays + heavenly birthdays.

You know how people say life isn’t fair?

Well I don’t believe our lives play a game of fair vs unfair. But this rocked my faith for sure. At the same time, Kimber + her family’s faith made me want to believe even more that she was truly home + we would meet again some day.

We are still celebrating you today Kimber.

You and Kyle.

Your wonderful families.

On your second wedding anniversary.

Your beautiful soul needs to be celebrated + honored every day, not just on milestones in your life. I am absolutely positively sure it is because you are loved by so so so many.

And I know you are watching over us all, but send an extra dose of love + light down to Kyle + Luna. I know we will.

I won’t lie, I intended to post this on your birthday (May 12th) but I couldn’t find the right words. Nearly a month later, there will never be the right words.

I visited Kimber + Kyle + Luna (that’s their furbabe) in February. We talked about their family vacations, family weddings, missing her students + what cancer is like. We talked about hope, which is fitting because that’s her middle name. That girl is so damn brave. Her husband is so damn brave. Hearing their story + their continuous faith made me love them even harder.

Picking out our favorite photos of the day was so hard. Tears of joy + tears of sadness of what a beautiful life. A beautiful love story.

While we usually focus on all the details of a wedding + include a healthy balance of all the pretties, for Kimber + Kyle, we wanted to show you the heart of them + their family.

Kimber we will remember you always.

Kyle, Carla + Scott, we are sending you the biggest hugs.

Thank you too all who participated in this beautiful celebration of love:

Are you hosting an intimate wedding?

Are you hosting an intimate wedding?

Photos by Kristina Cipolla Photography.

Are you hosting an intimate wedding?

Ya’ll know at Signed Sealed Delivered Events, we are addicted to love + we ain’t afraid to show it!

Any + all weddings are our fave!

Especially intimate weddings.

Which brings us to Sam + Warren + their most memorable beach nuptials topping out at 52 guests.

Some of you may recognize this pretty face (Sam, not Warren’s although he is pretty too) as one of our newest weddings extraordinaires.

While Sam + Warren’s wedding was intentionally small, our current climate has intimate weddings on the rise.

With the dreaded COVID-19 getting in the way of our party plans, many of our couples are choosing to postpone their receptions + host ceremonies with their parents. While others are choosing to stick with a smaller guest count for the whole shebang!

You make my dreams come true!

As your wedding fairy godmothers + besties for the resties, we are here to support either decision (while tossing confetti your way)!

Things might feel downright sucky with a lot of ambiguity, but as your trusted wedding resource, we are not going to let this pandemic take away your planning excitement!

How cool are these GQ cover looking dudes?

It may not be what you originally envisioned, but it’s still going to be your best day ever because you are marrying your boo!

If you are hosting an intimate wedding this year, here is something to keep in mind: You don’t have to skip on the details just because you have a smaller guest count! We can still create a beautiful day no matter the size.

Because every wedding day calls for puppy socks!

Plus local wedding pros are still open for business + ready to make magic!

Whether you are having a vow renewal next year or this is your official wedding day, you will want this magical moment documented. Have a professional there to capture this special time in your life! We highly recommend a photographer + a videographer!

One other thing you may consider is having your event live streamed so family + friends can tune in as you say I do!

These programs doubled as bags that held rose petals that guests tossed as Sam + Warren recessed down the aisle!

Have you always imagined the bridal march when you walk down the aisle towards your forever?
Or a song that reminds you of how you met, or describes your relationship to a T?
Then let’s play it! Hire a DJ or musician.
Plus depending on how intimate, you may consider a sound system for all your guests to hear.

Don’t forget personal flowers:  bouquet, boutineers, corsages plus altar arrangements, we can make that happen.

Instead of a big bridal party, pick 2 people to stand beside you!

Have champagne or a signature drink on standby to toast the moments after you say We Do!
Or before!
Heck, there’s no wrong way to celebrate when it comes to bubbles!

What’s your favorite drink to toast with?
If you ask our crew, Sam will tell you margaritas while Kate would say Prosecco.
Bonus if it’s
pink Prosecco.

If you opt out of a sit down meal, having hors d’oeuvres or a variety of desserts will make all bellies in attendance happy. There may be some new procedures in place as far as food service goes, but your professional caterer + planner can share those details based on the county where you are getting hitched.

And let’s be real, you definitely need cake. A party without cake is just a meeting.

In a perfect world, all meetings would involve cake.

Don’t skip on the moments either, because remember, we have professional paparazzi coming so you might as well have an album’s worth of photos to remember this amazing day!

Do a first look or a first touch!
Exchange cards!
Write your vows!
Cut your cake!
Dance your first dance!
Dance with your mom!
Dance with your dad!
Have sparklers or bubbles!
Remember, SSD has the confetti toss covered! HOORAY!

Carrie + Warren danced to a live version of Unforgettable

Now that we have all the fun details in place, let’s also talk a bit about keeping your celebration of love a safe + healthy one.

Remember earlier I mentioned the different phases + regulations by county + state. That will come to play again for a few more things:

  • Check in with your local courthouses on how to obtain a marriage licence during this time. Some may be closed or have limited hours.
  • Keep in mind there may be social distancing + max guest counts at venues that incorporate the 6 foot rule between seating – this will effect your lay out + guest counts.
  • When confirming your invite list, be sure to count your vendors as some county regulations require that wedding pros/ staff be included in that guest count max.
  • Will your guests be wearing masks? It might be a lovely nod to have some available for your guests upon entry + it wouldn’t hurt if they matched your decor. You guys know I couldn’t help myself.
  • Sanitation stations will be a necessity at all events moving forward as will new cleaning standards for all venues to ensure the healthiest environment possible.
  • If you are planning on serving refreshments of any kind be prepared for regulations on food presentations. Some venues/caterers may offer plated entrees only. Additionally disposable place settings might be the safest bet for events moving forward.
In case you missed these hand painted cookies by Sweet Cheeks, here they are up close!
We are dog lovers at SSD so any time we can include your fur babes, we will!

Please notice my overuse of “may” + “might” throughout this post. It is intentional as guidelines are changing often. Seek the advice of your local government + venue for most up to date regulations.

If you are ready to jump in to plan your wedding, big or small, hollatcha girls at Signed Sealed Delivered Events + we can walk you through every step of the way… holding hands + skipping at some point.

Side note, we joyfully plan destination weddings + are ready to travel! Just say the word!

If you guessed this was not in St. Louis, you were right Dorothy! There’s no place like home, but there’s also no place like the beach!

Get Outside and Play!

We Heart Outdoor Weddings!

Let’s Talk About the Facts…

Planning an elegant or rustic outdoor wedding can be incredible! One misconception is that a backyard wedding is a money saver. While that is most often untrue, it can be worth every penny if it’s what your heart desires!

Do you want to celebrate in the barn that you played in as a child that holds so many memories? How about on your favorite beach? Both offer a canvas for you, the artist, to design…

or with the help of your talented wedding planner (yeah that was on purpose).

Let’s chat about what goes into one of these beautiful events.

POTTY TIME Let’s just get this one out of the way. If you don’t have the facilities, you’ll need to look into renting portable potties for your guests to use after their frequent trips to the bar.

ELECTRIC Will you have power brought from a building or will you need to use generators to power things like lights and the DJ? Some thought, planning, and knowledge of wattage needs to go into this decision.

RENTALS If you’re creating a venue, just about everything will need to be rented. This may include tables, chairs, linens, china, flatware, even the dance floor.

BACK UP PLAN Yep, it’s the cold, wet truth about the Midwest. If you’re planning an outdoor event, you have to have a backup plan in place. Those anti-rain dances aren’t very reliable. This could be a second venue, having a tent on standby, or something else.

We could keep going, but it would be more fun to chat with you about your vision. Of course, we would love to help you bring all of this outdoor magic to life, so give us a call!
